BEREA, Ohio — Marietta College posted eighth place finishes by both the men and women at the Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Championships Saturday (Feb. 25) afternoon at Baldwin Wallace University.
"As a whole, lots of things went right for us. It's always nice to see two school records and several all-conference finishes. However, we left some points on the table in several events," marietta head coach
Jason Davis said. "We are getting better as a team. It just hasn't showed up on the scoreboard yet."
The second day of the championship featured another event win for the Pioneers, as well as a school record performance.
Emma Fehrman (Newark, Ohio/Licking Valley) earned All-OAC honors and a gold medal in the women's triple jump. Fehrman leaped a personal record distance of 11.26 meters (36' 11.5") for the win. She also posted an eighth-place finish in the 200-meter dash crossing the line up 27.26 seconds.
Mount Union won the women's team title with 221.5 points. John Carroll was second with 154.5 points, followed by Ohio Northern (112 points), Baldwin Wallace (89), Capital (48), Otterbein (39), Heidelberg (28), Marietta (23), Muskingum (23), and Wilmington (3).
The Purple Raiders also claimed the men's team title with 243 points. John Carroll and Ohio Northern finished second and third with 140 and 90 points, respectively. Otterbein (73 points) was fourth, followed by Wilmington (60), Baldwin Wallace (46), Capital (30.5), Marietta (29.5), Heidelberg (20), and Muskingum (9).
Senior
Addison Painter (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion) tied a school record, set three personal records, and was named as the Field Athlete of the Championship on the men's side. He started the day with a seventh-place finish in the high jump. Painter cleared 1.84 meters (6' 0.5"), a new personal record.
"Addison's selection as Field Athlete of the Meet is a culmination of his hard work and buying into the training," Davis said. "He takes coaching well and always seems to respond when the pressure is on. Well deserved."
Painter moved to the triple jump and tied the Marietta College record with a distance of 13.78 meters (45' 2.5"), also a new personal record. Painter equaled the mark of Fred Lovett who set the school record in 1976.
On the track, Painter set his third personal best of the day with a fourth-place finish in the 55-meter hurdles. Painter crossed the line in 7.82 seconds. He also anchored Marietta's 4x200 meter relay team. The Pioneers finished eighth with a time of 1:34.90.
Elijah Kuklica (New Concord, Ohio/John Glenn) ran the lead leg, followed by
Chase Stephen (Cambridge, Ohio/John Glenn),
Evan Kieffer (Cheswick, Pa./Fox Chapel Area) and Painter.
Marietta's 4x400 meter relay team posted a seventh-place finish crossing the line in 3:32.04. The Pioneer lineup featured Kuklica, Kieffer,
Xavier Lamneck (Coshocton, Ohio/Ridgewood), and
Lane Wilson (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster).
