Painter wins long jump gold on first day of the OAC Indoor Championships

BEREA, Ohio — Senior Addison Painter (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion) won the men's long jump at the Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Track Championships Friday (Feb. 24) afternoon on the campus of Baldwin Wallace University. Painter and pole vaulter Emily Thompson (St. Clairsville, Ohio/St. Clairsville) each earned All-OAC honors in their respective events.

Painter earned 10 points for the Pioneers with his win in the long jump. He leaped 6.95 meters (22' 9.75") to win the event. Jake Priest (Frazeysburg, Ohio/Tri-Valley) earned Marietta's other team points with a fifth place showing in the weight throw. Priest had a personal record distance of 16.92 meters (55' 6").

Senior Lane Wilson (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) set the Marietta College record in the 500-meter dash. Wilson finished ninth with a time of 1:06.95. The old record of 1:07.08 was set by Alex Dimon in 2021.

Mount Union leads the men's team competition with 92 points on the first day of the two-day championship. John Carroll is currently in second place with 41 points, followed by Wilmington (38 points), Ohio Northern (34), Otterbein (31), Marietta (14), Capital (12), Baldwin Wallace (8), and Heidelberg (3),

Thompson earned the Pioneer women eight points with her second-place finish in the pole vault. Thompson cleared a height of 3.66 meters (12' 0"). Brooke Huffman (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) earned three points with a sixth-place finish in the weight throw. Huffman recorded a personal record mark of 14.38 meters (47' 2").

Marietta's 4,000-meter Distance Medley Relay team placed eighth earning one team point. The Pioneer relay featured Abby Shartle (Germantown, Ohio/Valley View), Michaela Hieronymus (Letart, W.Va./Wahama), Mackenzie Moran (Tallmadge, Ohio/Tallmadge) and Isabelle Poling (Lancaster, Ohio/Bloom Carroll). They crossed the line in 14:26.28.

The final day of the OAC Indoor Championship is set for Saturday (Feb. 25). Events start at 10:00 a.m.
