Fehrman and Priest lead Track and Field at Muskingum

NEW CONCORD, Ohio — The Marietta College track and field team returned the Muskingum University Saturday (Jan. 28) afternoon. The Pioneer women placed sixth, while the men finished eighth. Ohio Northern won both the men's and women's team titles.
 
"It was a little bit of a mixed bag today. We got some event wins and some PR's, but it wasn't as good as last week," Marietta head coach Jason Davis said. "We did have some good things happen today."
 
The Ohio Northern women won with 161.5 total points. Carnegie Mellon finished second with 155 points, followed by Mount Vernon Nazarene (63 points), Otterbein (61.5), Muskingum (52), Marietta (35), Rio Grande (34), Cuyahoga CC (32), Washington & Jefferson (26), Chatham (19), Ohio Christian (12), West Virginia Wesleyan (4), and Bethany (1).
 
Emma Fehrman (Newark, Ohio/Licking Valley) led the Pioneers with a win in the triple jump and a sixth-place finish in the 200-meter dash. Fehrman recorded a leap of 10.65 meters (34'11.25") in the triple jump. She set a new personal record in the 200m crossing the line in 27.60 seconds.
 
Marietta had a pair of second place finishes. Emily Thompson (St. Clairsville, Ohio/St. Clairsville) cleared 3.57 meters (11'8.5") to finish second in the pole vault. The Pioneers' 4,000-meter distance medley relay team also placed second with a time of 14:27.28. The relay team included Isabelle Poling (Lancaster, Ohio/Bloom Carroll), Michaela Hieronymus (Letart, W.Va./Wahama), Mackenzie Moran (Tallmadge, Ohio/Tallmadge) and Kaitlyn Gough (Canal Winchester, Ohio/Bloom Carroll).
 
Two other Pioneers scored points in the meet. Brooke Huffman (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) placed fourth in weight throw with a heave of 13.35 meters (43'9.75"), while Alison Loase (Bethesda, Ohio/Union Local) earned one team point with a ninth-place finish in the pole vault. Loase cleared 3.27 meters (10'8.75").
 
On the men's side, Ohio Northern recorded 162.5 points for the win. Otterbein was second with 135 points, followed by Carnegie Mellon (107 points), Mount Vernon Nazarene (82.5), Rio Grande (50), Washington & Jefferson (46), Muskingum (45), Marietta (37), Ohio Christian (15), and Chatham (3).
 
Jake Priest (Frazeysburg, Ohio/Tri-Valley) had Marietta's lone event win in the men's competition. Priest won the weight thrown with a toss of 16.69 meters (54'9.25").
 
Lane Wilson (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) runed in a pair of top-five finishes, while Addison Painter (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion) had a pair of sixth-place finishes. Wilson placed fourth in the mile run with a time of 4:35.56 and was fifth in 800-meter run with a time of 2:01.03. Painter cleared a personal record height of 1.75 meters (5'8.75") in the high jump and had a distance of 6.44 meters (21'1.5") in the long jump. Painter also had set a new personal record in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.31 seconds.
 
Elijah Kuklica () and Beau Priest (Dresden, Ohio/Tri-valley) each set a pair of personal records this afternoon. He placed fifth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 53.06 and crossed the line in 24.07 seconds in the 200-meter dash. Priest was fifth in the shot put with a mark of 13.91 meters (45'7.75") and had a distance of 13.91 meters (45'7.75") in the weight throw.
 
Luke Watt (Rayland, Ohio/St. Clairsville) cleared a height of 3.95 meters (12'11.5") to finish seventh in the pole vault. Evan Kieffer (Cheswick, Pa./Fox Chapel Area) placed eighth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.65 seconds. He also set a new personal record in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.74 seconds. Gavin Cayton (McDermott, Ohio/Portsmouth Clay) cleared a personal record height of 1.70 meters (5'7") to place eighth in the high jump.
 
Marietta will compete in Mount Union's Jim Wuske Invitational next Saturday (Feb. 4). Events start at 10:00 a.m.
