NEW CONCORD, Ohio — The Marietta College track and field team had a strong showing at the Muskingum Invitational Saturday (Jan. 21) afternoon. The Pioneers men finished second, while the women placed fourth.
Muskingum won the men's team title with a total of 142.5 points. Marietta scored 120.5 points for second place, while Ohio Wesleyan was third with 115 points. Heidelberg (97.5) was fourth followed by St. Vincent (53), Waynesburg (44.5), Thiel (37), and Chatham (21).
The Pioneer men had five event wins with
Addison Painter (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion) claiming two of those wins. Painter won the long jump with a personal best distance of 6.82 meters and took first place in the triple jump with a distance of 13.08 meters. Painter also placed fourth in the pole vault clearing 3.35 meters and was fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.17 seconds.
Elijah Kuklica () won the 400-meter dash with a personal record time of 53.80.
Lane Wilson (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) won the 500-meter dash with a personal best time of 1:07.32 and
Luke Watt (Rayland, Ohio/St. Clairsville) took top honors in the pole vault clearing a height of 4.10 meters.
Marietta's 4x400-meter relay team placed fourth with a time of 3:42.85.
Evan Kieffer (Cheswick, Pa./Fox Chapel Area) ran the lead leg with Kuklica and
Xavier Lamneck (Coshocton, Ohio/) handling the second and third legs. Wilson ran the anchor leg.
Matthew Siegler (Hamilton, Ohio/Badin) placed second in the 200-meter dash recoding a personal best time of 23.53 seconds. He also tied for fourth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.33 seconds. Siegler set a new personal best time in the 60m prelims finishing in 7.24 seconds.
In the 400-meter dash, Kieffer placed second crossing the line in 54.00 seconds, while Lamneck was fifth with a personal best time of 56.20 seconds.
Beau Priest (Dresden, Ohio/Tri-valley) set a pair of personal bests in the shot put and weight throw. He finished second in the shot with a mark of 13.39 meters and was eighth in the weight throw with a distance of 11.45 meters.
Jake Priest (Frazeysburg, Ohio/Tri-Valley) was second in the weight throw with a mark of 16.35 meters and placed fourth in the shot with a personal record distance of 12.97 meters.
Reese Worship (Euclid, Ohio/Euclid) turned in a fifth-place finish in the weight throw with a heave of 13.33 meters.
Cael McCutcheon (Point Pleasant, W.Va./Point Pleasant) placed fifth in the pole vault clearing a height of 3.20 meters.
Gavin Cayton (McDermott, Ohio/Portsmouth Clay) was eighth in the high jump with a height of 1.60 meters.
Ohio Wesleyan won the women's team title with 127 points. Waynesburg was second with 116 points, followed by Muskingum (91), Marietta (89), Heidelberg (79), St. Vincent (50), Chatham (25), and Thiel (8).
The Pioneer women had a pair of event winners.
Emily Thompson (St. Clairsville, Ohio/St. Clairsville) won the pole vault with a height of 3.51 meters and
Emma Fehrman (Newark, Ohio/Licking Valley) won the triple jump with a leap of 10.47 meters. Fehrman also placed second in the 200-meter dash with a personal best time of 27.95 seconds and was sixth in the long jump with a distance of 4.70 meters.
Once again, Marietta dominated the pole vault with five of the top eight finishers. In addition to Thompson,
Alison Loase (Bethesda, Ohio/Union Local) placed second with a height of 3.36 meters,
Baylee Brown (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) was fifth clearing 2.90 meters,
Ashton Carroll (Corning, Ohio/New Lexington) finished sixth clearing a personal record height of 2.90 meters, while
Michaela Hieronymus (Letart, W.Va./Wahama) was eighth with a personal best mark of 2.29 meters. Hieronymus also placed fourth in the 400-meter dash with a personal record time of 1:06.23.
Cali Barnes-Pierotti (Gallipolis, Ohio/Gallia Academy) turned in a pair of fifth-place finishes in the jumps. She recorded a mark of 1.35 meters in the high jump and 8.95 meters in the triple jump.
Brooke Huffman (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) and
Savannah Flusche (Blacklick, Ohio/) finished fourth and sixth, respectively, in the weight throw. Huffman recorded a throw of 13.44 meters, while Flusche marked at 12.83 meters.
Four other Pioneers scored team points on the track with each of the setting new personal records in their respective events.
Elizabeth Schnegg (Clarington, Ohio/St. John Central) was third in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.72 seonds. Isabell Poling was third in the mile run crossing the line in 6:18.23, while
Abby Shartle (Germantown, Ohio/Valley View) was fourth in the mile with a time of 6:21.25,
Kaitlyn Gough (Canal Winchester, Ohio/Bloom Carroll) placed fifth in the 3,000-meter run finishing in 11:33.40.
Marietta is back in action at Muskingum University next Saturday (Jan. 28). Events start at 11:00 a.m.
