CHESTERTOWN, Maryland — The Marietta College women's rowing team competed in the Washington College Invitational Saturday (March 26) on the Chester River. The Pioneers placed fifth in the varsity 8+ Grand Final.
"The wind picked up throughout the day making for a rougher race, but the women tackled the challenge and made strong improvements from the heat to the final," Marietta head coach
Abby Lord said. "We gained good racing experience and we're looking forward to seeing many of these teams again at the conference championships."
Jefferson and Marietta advanced to the Grand Final with first and second place finishes, respectively, in the heat. Thomas Jefferson posted a time of 6:33.3), well ahead of Marietta (6:55.69) and Franklin & Marshall (7:09.8).
Wellesley, ranked No. 1 in Division III currently, dominated the Grand Final crossing the line in 6:22.8, more than 20 seconds ahead of second place Thomas Jefferson (6:43.37). Washington College (7:03.95) took third, followed by Bryn Mawr (7:10.73) and Marietta (7:15.37).
Marietta will host St. Mary's College of Maryland and the Ohio State club team on Saturday (April 9).
