MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College men's and women's track and field teams opened the indoor season at the annual Marietta First Glimpse Meet Saturday (Dec. 3) afternoon in the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center. The Pioneers finished fourth in both the men's and women's team standings.
"We had a lot of good things happen today," Marietta head coach
Jason Davis said. "It was one of the best openers we have had. There were numerous Pioneers in finals and several personal records."
Glenville State won the women's team title with 140.5 total points. Muskingum placed second with 123 points, followed by Mount Vernon Nazarene (112 points), Marietta (68 points) and Alderson Broaddus (47.5 points).
Marietta's pole vault crew led the Pioneers with four athletes scoring in the meet.
Emily Thompson (St. Clairsville, Ohio/St. Clairsville) cleared 3.48-meters (11'5") to place second.
Alison Loase (Bethesda, Ohio/Union Local) was third with a height of 3.18m (10'5.25"), while
Ashton Carroll (Corning, Ohio/New Lexington) and
Baylee Brown (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) tied for fourth clearing 2.73m (8'11.5").
Thompson also place sixth in the 55-meter dash crossing the line in 8.03 seconds. She set a personal best in the 55m prelims with a time of 8.02 seconds.
Tara Fleming (Waverly, W.Va./Williamstown) and
Cali Barnes-Pierotti (Gallipolis, Ohio/Gallia Academy) placed second and sixth, respectively, in the 55-meter hurdles. Fleming finished in 9.70 seconds, while Barnes-Pierotti recorded a time of 10.69 seconds. In the prelims, Barnes-Pierotti set a new personal best with a time of 10.55 seconds.
Barnes-Pierotti also scored in the triple jump. She placed fourth with a distance of 8.97m (29'5.25").
Emma Fehrman (Newark, Ohio/Licking Valley) took fourth in the long jump with a leap of 4.62m (15'2").
It was good meet for the Pioneer throwers.
Brooke Huffman (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) placed second in the weight throw and seventh in the shot put. Huffman notched a distance of 13.28m (43'7") in the weight throw and 10.11m (33'2") in the shot.
Savannah Flusche (Blacklick, Ohio/) was fourth in the weight throw with a mark of 13.02m (42'8.75") and was fifth in the shot with a personal record heave of 10.11m (33'2").
Alexis Schreckengost (Williamstown, W.Va./) placed seventh in the weight throw with a personal best distance of 10.88m (35'8.5").
Mount Vernon Nazarene finished first in the final men's standings with 144 total points. Glenville State was second with 133 points, with Muskingum (97.5 points) third, Marietta (74 points) fourth and Alderson Broaddus (56.5 points) placed fifth.
Addison Painter (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion) led the Pioneer men scoring in three events. Painter took second place in the high jump clearing a personal best height of 1.75m (5'8.75"). He was third in the 55m hurdles and the long jump. Painter posted a time of 8.00 seconds in the hurdles and a distance of 6.42m (21'0.75") in the long jump.
Gavin Cayton (McDermott, Ohio/Portsmouth Clay) cleared 1.70m (5'7") to finish fourth in the high jump.
Luke Watt (Rayland, Ohio/St. Clairsville),
Cael McCutcheon (Point Pleasant, W.Va./Point Pleasant) and
Brendan Bates (Lore City, Ohio) all scored for Marietta in the pole vault. Watt placed third with a height of 3.50m (11'5.75"). McCutcheon finished fifth clearing 3.35m (10'11.75"), while Bates was seventh with a height of 3.05m (10'0").
Jake Priest (Frazeysburg, Ohio/Tri-Valley) and
Reese Worship (Euclid, Ohio/Euclid) both posted new personal records in the weight throw. Priest placed second with a mark of 16.08m (52'9.25") and Worship was fourth with a distance of 14.26m (46'9.5").
On the track,
Landen Salgat (Shadyside, Ohio/Shadyside) took fourth place in the 800m run with a time of 2:18.36.
Evan Kieffer (Cheswick, Pa./Fox Chapel Area) crossed the line in 55.58 seconds to place seventh in the 400m dash.
A pair of Pioneers scored in both the 55m and 200m dashes. In the 55m,
Vante' Hodges (Horn Lake, Miss./Horn Lake) was fifth with a time of 6.75 seconds, while
Matthew Siegler (Hamilton, Ohio/Badin) was sixth with a time of 6.76 seconds.
Xavier Lamneck (Coshocton, Ohio/) was fifth in the 200m with a time of 24.80 seconds and
Chase Stephen (Cambridge, Ohio/John Glenn) placed sixth with a time of 24.84 seconds.
Marietta is off until the new year when the Pioneers host the Pioneer Open on January 13th.
