MARIETTA, Ohio – Former Marietta College men's track and field All-American Alex Dimon (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) was presented with the 2021 Way-Weigelt Award Saturday (Sept. 18) evening. The award is presented annually to a senior male who best demonstrates the qualities of scholarship, leadership, character and sportsmanship in addition to participation in athletics.

"Alex bought into the program from day one. When we made changes to his technique, he would come in for one-on-one work to get it right," said Head Coach Jason Davis.  "It was always a goal to set the school record in the 110HH and to see him do it at his last meet as a Pioneer was very gratifying. Alex is the epitome of a great student, athlete, and leader. A true ambassador for Marietta College and our athletics program."

The hurdler was a four-year letter winner in both indoor and outdoor track and field.  Dimon qualified for the NCAA Division III Championship meet five times in his four-year career.  Dimon earned All-American honors in his final race for the Pioneers, as he was the Division-III runner-up in the 110-meter hurdles.  Dimon was a seven-time Great Lakes All-Region honoree.  He holds the school record in the 110-meter hurdles, 200, 400, and 500-meter race.

The Petroleum Engineering major was a member of the McDonough Program for Leadership.  Dimon was the president for the Lambda Alpha Chi, and was a founding member of the Brother 2 Brother Fraternity.  Dimon was also a member of the Energy Business Alliance and volunteered at Belpre Bingo.

The award memorializes James W. Way '55 and Henry C. Weigelt '57, two former Marietta College athletes who tragically lost their lives in an automobile accident. The award consists of the presentation of a plaque and a nameplate bearing the athlete's name placed in the lobby of Ban Johnson Arena.
