Track and Field competes at Sparky Adams Invitational

BEREA, Ohio – The Marietta College track and field team competed in the Sparky Adams Invitational hosted by Baldwin Wallace University, on Friday (April 2) afternoon.  The women placed third with 97 points, and the men placed fifth with 67 points.  

"It was a mixed bag at the meet today.  We had some pretty good performances in poor weather.  We had some event wins, and I like how we responded to the conditions," said Head Coach Jason Davis.  

The Pioneers were led by Kaitlin Kobuszewski (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon), she won the women's javelin when she cleared a distance of 31.10 meters (102'00").  Kobuszewski won her second event of the day in the long jump.  Kobuszewski won the event with a jump of 4.93 meters (16'2.25").  Kobuszewski rounded out her day with a third-place finish in the 100-meter dash, with a time of 13.40 seconds.      

Kasey Neville (Belington, W.Va./Philip Barbour) added to the winning ways with a win in the shot put, with a throw of 12.28 meters (40'3.5").  Annie Priest (Frazeysburg, Ohio/Tri-Valley) was second in the shot put, when she cleared a distance of 11.29 meters (37'.05").  Brooke Huffman (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) rounded out the shot put performance with a fourth place finish, when she threw a distance of 10.70 meters (35'1.25").    

Laura Pullins (Long Bottom, Ohio/Reedsville Eastern) also brought home an event win for the Pioneers.  Pullins cleared a height of 1.65 meters (5'5") to win the high jump.  

Allison Loase (Bethesda, Ohio/Union Local) notched the fourth event win for the women in the pole vault, when she cleared a height of 3.36 meters (11'0.25").  Alexis Pennell (East Canton, Ohio/East Canton) also cleared 3.36 meters (11'0.25"), but took home second place honors.  

Huffman added to the women's performance with a third-place finish in the hammer throw, when she cleared a distance of 41.33 meters (135' 7").  Priest and Neville rounded out the hammer throw, with throws of 38.05 meters (124'10") and 37.59 meters (123'4") to earn fifth and sixth place respectively.  

Gracie Yates (Grove City, Ohio/Grove City) pitched in with a fourth-place finish in the long jump, when she cleared a distance of 4.52 meters (14'10").  

Faith Malone (Wheelersburg, Ohio/Minford) rounded out the women's performance with a sixth-place finish in the 200-meter dash, with a time of 30.65 seconds.   

Lane Wilson (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) got a win for the men in the 1,500 meters, he broke the tape in a time of 4:16.65 minutes.  

Alex Dimon (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) tallied the second event win for the men in the 400-meter hurdles.  Dimon crossed the line in a time of 55.08 seconds.  

Reese Worship (Euclid, Ohio/Euclid) added a second-place finish to the men's performance in the javelin, with a throw of 29.81 meters (97'10").  Kenneth Amos (Akron, Ohio/Buchtel) finished right behind Worship in third place with a throw of 27.30 meters (89'07").

Tyler Walker (Cambridge, Ohio/John Glenn) notched a third-place finish in the men's 400 meter, when he turned in a time of 52.40 seconds.  Evan Kieffer (Cheswick, Pa. /Fox Chapel Area) finished the 400 meter in a time of 53.14 seconds, to earn sixth place.  

Aaron Rohr (Mogadore, Ohio/Field) grabbed a third-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, with a time of 11:02.99 minutes.   

Jake Priest (Frazeysburg, Ohio/Tri-Valley) notched a fourth-place finish in the hammer throw, when he cleared a distance of 42.78 meters (140'04").   

Chasten Coleman (Yadkinville, NC/Forbush) placed sixth in the 800 meters, when he crossed the finish line in a time of 2:11.39 minutes.

Marietta will return to the track Saturday (April 10) when they travel to compete on the campus of Heidelberg University.
