MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College track and field team won 13 events on Sunday (Feb. 7) afternoon when they hosted Muskingum University, and Wilmington College inside the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center. The Pioneer women placed first in the meet with a team score of 114 points, and the men placed third with 70 points.
"We had a great outing today. The athletes were competing hard and set a couple of PR's and a school record," said Head Coach
Jason Davis. "To get the win on the women's side was big for us. These young women impress me more every week. Both squads have gotten better since we started training."
Alex Dimon (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) notched the first win of the day for the men in the 55 hurdles, when he broke the tape in a time of 7.89 seconds.
The Pioneers swept all three spots on the podium in the men's 500 meter race. Dimon earned his second win of the day when he crossed the finish line in a time of 1:07.08 minutes, which set a school record.
Tyler Walker (Cambridge, Ohio/John Glenn), and
Evan Kieffer (Cheswick, Pa. /Fox Chapel Area) finished second and third in times of 1:10.64 minutes, and 1:11.16 minutes respectively.
Dimon continued to lead the way for the men, when he won the 200 meters in a time of 22.67 seconds.
Luke Wallace (Columbus, Ohio) notched an event win for the men in the 400 meter race.
Luke Wallace (Columbus, Ohio) broke the tape in a time of 58.40 seconds.
Lane Wilson (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) won the fifth event for the men in the 800 meter race. Wilson crossed the line in a time of 2:01.66 minutes.
Luke Watt (St. Clairsville, Ohio/St. Clairsville) notched a second place finish in the men's pole vault when he cleared a height of 3.20 meters (10'6").
Braeden Wallace (Elkton, Va./East Rockingham) finished the men's mile in a time of 4:33.50 minutes to cross the line in third place. Wilson finished five seconds behind Wallace in a time of 4:39.14 minutes to place fifth.
Laura Pullins (Long Bottom, Ohio/Reedsville Eastern) opened the meet in the women's high jump. Pullins cleared her first two heights with ease, and won the event with a jump of 1.65 meters (5'5").
Cali Barnes-Pierotti (Gallipolis, Ohio/Gallia Academy ) capped the high jump when she cleared 1.40 meters (4'7") to earn fourth place honors.
The Pioneers dominated the women's pole vault, as they took the top four spots.
Baylee Brown (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) earned the win when she cleared a height of 3.25 meters (10'8").
Alexis Pennell (East Canton, Ohio/East Canton) notched a second place finish with a vault of 3.10 meters. (10'2").
Allison Loase (Bethesda, Ohio/Union Local) and
Jordan Hartle (New Brighton, Pa./Freedom Area) finished in third and fourth with heights of 2.95 meters (9'8") and 2.50 meters (8'2.50") respectively.
Kaitlin Kobuszewski (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) continued the winning ways for the women, with a win in the 55 meter dash in a time of 7.79 seconds.
Gracie Yates (Grove City, Ohio) rounded out the 55 meter dash performance with a time of 8.43 seconds, to earn fourth place honors.
Kobuszewski earned her second win of the day in the women's 400 meter race, as she finished the race in a time of 1:08.55 minutes.
Pullins notched her second event win of the day in the long jump clearing a distance of 4.86 meters (15'11.5"). Kobuszewski rounded out the long jump performance in third place behind a jump of 4.78 meters (15'8.25").
Kasey Neville (Belington, W.Va./Philip Barbour) added to the winning tally on the women's side in the shot put. Neville won with a throw of 12.70 meters (41'8").
Annie Priest (Frazeysburg, Ohio/Tri-Valley) and
Brooke Huffman (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) placed third and fourth with throws of 11.65 meters (38'2.75") and 10.94 meters (35'10.75") respectively.
Pullins won her third event of the day in the women's 200 meters, when she crossed the line in a time of 27.76 seconds. Kobuszewski notched a third place finish in the 200 meters with a time of 29.72 seconds.
Neville won her second event of the day in the women's weight throw, when she cleared a distance of 15.38 meters (50'5.50"). Once again Priest and Huffman finished third and fourth with throws of 14.40 meters (47'3") and 13.39 meters (43'11.25") respectively.
Marietta will return to the track Sunday (Feb. 14) when the sprinters and jumpers compete. At Capital, and the distance runners and throwers compete at Otterbein.
