Track and Field opens 2020-21 season against Otterbein

MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College track and field team opened its 2020-21 campaign against Otterbein University Sunday (Jan. 31) afternoon inside the Dyson Baudo Recreation. Center.  

"I was happy to see us get out and compete today.  We won several events, and we competed hard," said Head Coach Jason Davis.  "I am proud of the way the athletes handled themselves.  We should have a few top marks in the country."

Laura Pullins (Long Bottom, Ohio/Reedsville Eastern) got the meet started with a win in the women's high jump.  Pullins won the event when she cleared a height of 1.65 meters (5'5").  Pullins added to her day with a second-place finish in the long jump when she cleared a distance of 4.64 meters (15'2.75").    

The Pioneer women got their second win of the day, as Baylee Brown (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) won the pole vault.  Brown earned the win when she cleared a height of 3.4 meters (11'1.75").  Allison Loase (Bethesda, Ohio/Union Local) and Alexis Pennell (East Canton, Ohio/East Canton) added to the women's pole vault performance as they placed third and fourth, with vaults of 3.10 meters (10'2") and 2.95 meters (9'8") respectively

Kasey Neville (Belington, W.Va./Philip Barbour) won the third event of the day for the women, when she won the shot put.  Neville earned the win with a throw of 12.58 meters (41'3.25").  Annie Priest (Frazeysburg, Ohio/Tri-Valley) added a second-place finish in the shot put, as she cleared 11.37 meters (37'3.75").   

Neville notched her second win of the day in the weight throw.  Neville cleared a distance of 14.04 meters (46'0.75").  Priest once again finished right behind Neville for second place, with a throw of 12.51 meters (41'0.5").   

Gracie Yates (Grove City, Ohio) pitched in on the women's side with a fourth place finish in the long jump when she cleared a distance of 4.47 meters (14'8").  

Jake Priest (Frazeysburg, Ohio) notched the first event win for the men, when he won the shot put.  Priest won with a throw of 12.08 meters (39'7.75").  Reese Worship (Euclid, Ohio/Euclid) finished right behind Priest, with a throw of 11.77 meters (38'7.5"), to earn second place honors.   

Alex Dimon (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) notched a second win for the men, as he cruised to victory in the 55-meter hurdles.  Dimon won the hurdles in a time of 7.99 seconds.  Dimon finished the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.72 seconds, which earned him his second first place finish on the day.    

Tyler Walker (Cambridge, Ohio/John Glenn) won the third event for the Pioneers in the 500-meter race.  Walker crossed the line in a time of 53.35 seconds.  Evan Kieffer (Cheswick, Pa. /Fox Chapel Area) finished on the heels of Walker in a time of 53.90 seconds, to earn second place honors.

Hunter Sheets (Chillicothe, Ohio/Huntington) continued the winning ways for Marietta, Sheets broke the tape in a time of 3:00.40 minutes in the 1,000-meter race.  Chasten Coleman (Yadkinville, NC/Forbush) earned a second place in the 1,000-meter race with a time of 3:04.26 minutes.  

Jake Priest (Frazeysburg, Ohio) notched his second win of the meet in the men's weight throw.  Priest covered a distance of 15 meters (49'2.5") to earn the victory.  Devin McFarland (St. Clairesville, Ohio/St. Clairesville) earned a third-place finish in the weight, when he threw a distance of 9.68 meters 31'9.25").    
 
The final Marietta win of the day came in the men's 1,600-meter relay.  The team of Dimon, Walker, Kieffer, and Lane Wilson (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) notched the win in a time of 3:34.62 minutes.   

Wilson notched a solid performance in the men's mile, when he placed second in a time of 4:42.36 minutes.  Wilson added his second, second place finish of the day in the 800 meters, with a time of 2:06.94 minutes.  

Kenneth Amos (Akron, Ohio/Buchtel) pitched in on the men's side with a pair of second place finishes in the high jump and long jump.  He cleared a height of 1.50 meters (4'11") in the high jump and jumped 4.35 meters (14'3.25") in the long jump.   

Marietta will return to the track Sunday (Feb. 7) when they host Muskingum and Wilmington with field events starting at 11 a.m.
