MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College track and field team opened its 2019-2020 indoor season when they hosted the Marietta First Glimpse meet Saturday (Dec. 7). The Pioneer women placed third with 80 points, and the men finished sixth with 34 points.
"We had a great opener this weekend. Kasey setting a school record highlighted the day, along with multiple personal records, and Ohio Athletic Conference qualifying marks," said Head Coach
Jason Davis. "Other than having some people under the weather, it was a great day to be a Pioneer."
The Marietta women were led by
Kasey Neville (Belington, W.Va./Philip Barbour). Neville set the school record in the indoor women's shot put, she threw a distance of 13.39 meters (43'11.25") to earn first place honors.
Annie Priest (Frazeysburg, Ohio/Tri-Valley) added to the women's shot put performance as she placed fourth with a throw of 11.79 meters (38' 8.25').
Jensen Greer (McConnelsville, Ohio/Morgan) rounded out the strong showing in the shot put with a throw of 9.78 meters (32'1") to earn eight-place.
Laura Pullins (Long Bottom, Ohio/Reedsville Eastern) added to the winning ways for the Pioneers, when she won the women's high jump. Pullins earned the win when she cleared a height of 1.65 meters (5'5").
Baylee Brown (Marietta, Ohio) notched a win in the women's triple jump as she cleared a distance of 9.37 meters (30'9").
A trio of freshman had a good showing in the women's pole vault as Brown,
Allison Loase (Bethesda, Ohio), and
Alexis Pennell (East Canton, Ohio/East Canton) earned second, third, and fourth place respectively. Brown cleared a height of 3.25 meters (10'8"), Loase cleared 3.10 meters (10'2") and Pennell cleared a height of. 2.65 meters (8'8.25").
Ashley Van Hoose (Howard, Ohio/East Knox) earned a third-place finish in the women's 400-meter dash, as she crossed the line in a time of 1:06.82 minutes.
The trio of Priest, Neville, and Greer turned in a strong performance in the women's weight throw as they earned third, fourth, and sixth place honors respectively. Priest threw a distance of 14.32 meters (46'11.75"), Neville cleared 13.94 meters (45'10.75"), and Greer threw a distance of 12.53 meters (41'1.5").
The Marietta men were led by
Alex Dimon (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge). Dimon won the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 7.68 seconds.
Dan McCartney (Warren, Ohio/Kennedy) and
Jared Gaylord (Tryone, Pa./Juniata Valley) had a solid showing in the men's triple jump as they earned third and fourth place honors respectively. McCartney cleared a distance of 10.59 meters (34'9") and Gaylord jumped 10.02 meters (33'6.75").
Jim Kovatch (Lancaster, Ohio/Fairfield Union) placed sixth in the men's pole vault when he cleared a height of 3.65 meters (11'11.75").
Tyler Walker (Cambridge, Ohio/John Glenn) added a sixth-place finish in the men's 400-meter dash when he crossed the line in a time of 54.07 seconds.
Cullen Dennis (Lancaster, Ohio) and McCartney rounded out the Pioneers performance as they each earned seventh place honors in their respective events. Cullen placed seventh in the men's 400 meter dash, with a time of 54.18 seconds, and McCartney placed seventh in the men's long jump, clearing a distance of 5.63 meters (18'5.75").
Marietta will return to the track Saturday (Jan. 11) when they host the Marietta Open.
