CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Marietta College men's tennis team closed out the regular season with a 9-0 loss at John Carroll University Saturday (April 29). The loss drops Marietta to 3-14 on the season and 1-7 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. John Carroll improves to 12-7 overall and 7-0 in the OAC.
The Blue Streaks posted 8-0 wins in all three doubles matches. At No. 1, Jad Abdul-Aal and Nick Siciliano beat
Jack Hirschfield (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) and
Shane Spencer (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion). Tyler Cole and Alex Guthrie downed
Bryce Emerick (Hyndman, Pa./HOPE for Hyndman Charter) and
Will Watson (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) at No. 2, while
Brandon DeCicco (Mineral Wells, W.Va./Parkersburg) and
Alex Hogan (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) fell to Dillon O'Brien and Jack Payne at No. 3.
John Carroll swept the singles matches in straight sets. Abdul-Aal defeated Spencer at No. 1, 6-0 and 6-0. Hirschfield lost to Gustavo Garcia at No. 2, 6-1 and 6-1. In the No. 3 match, Siciliano blanked Emerick, 6-0 and 6-0.
Guthrie and Scott Adsit topped Watson and DeCicco by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores at Nos. 4 and 5, respectively. In the final match, Adi Jha beat Hogan, 6-0 and 6-1.
Marietta opens OAC Tournament play on Tuesday (May 2). The seeding for the tournament will be finalized on Sunday.
