MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College men's tennis team lost its Ohio Athletic Conference opener to Capital University Saturday (Mar. 23) afternoon by the score of 8-1. The Pioneers fall to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the OAC. Capital moves to 1-10 on the season and 1-0 in the OAC.
Marietta's lone point came in the top doubles match.
Elijah Kuhl (Marietta, Ohio/Wood County Christian (W.Va.)) and
Elivh Perez (Mexico City, Mexico/Preparatoria Abierta) downed Jackson Havel and Jesse Stevens, 8-5. Capital took the No. 2 doubles match as Spencer Surles and Nicholas Wines topped
George Fazah (Beirut, Lebanon/Adma International School) and
Matthew McIntire (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta), 8-1. The Comets received a forfeit win at No. 3 doubles.
Capital posted straight-set wins in each of the top five singles matches. Surles defeated Kuhl in the top spot, 6-2 and 6-2. Perez lost to Stevens at No. 2, 6-4 and 6-4. Havel bested McIntire at No. 3, 6-3 and 6-1.
At No. 4, Wines downed Fazah, 6-3 and 6-2. Alex Rowley bested
David Frazier (Louisville, Ohio/Louisville) at No. 5, 6-2 and 6-0. Marietta forfeited the No. 6 singles match.
Marietta hosts Ohio Northern University on Friday (Mar. 29) at 1:00 p.m.
