COLUMBUS, Ohio — Capital University defeated Marietta College by the score of 9-0 Tuesday (April 18) afternoon in Ohio Athletic Conference men's tennis action. The loss drops Marietta to 3-13 on the season and 1-6 in the OAC. The Crusaders improve to 6-14 overall and 3-3 in the OAC.
The Crusaders jumped out to an early 3-0 lead with a sweep of doubles. In the top spot, Dale Booher and Santino DiMichaelangelo downed
Shane Spencer (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion) and
Jack Hirschfield (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta), 8-3. C.J. Martin and John Roberts were 8-1 winners at No. 2 over
Bryce Emerick (Hyndman, Pa./HOPE for Hyndman Charter) and
Will Watson (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg), while Hunter Walter and Ben Heiland beat
Brandon DeCicco (Mineral Wells, W.Va./Parkersburg) and
Alex Hogan (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) At No. 3, 8-0.
Booher was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Spencer at No. 1 singles. Martin topped Hirschfield at No. 2, 3-6, 6-1 and 1-0 (10-3), while Roberts bested Emerick at No. 3, 6-1 and 6-1.
Watson fell to DiMichaelangelo at No. 4 by the scores of 6-1 and 6-1. At No. 5, Walter downed DeCicco, 6-0 and 6-1. In the final match, Williams blanked Hogan at No. 6, 6-0 and 6-0.
