HILTON HEAD, S.C. — The Marietta College men's tennis team finished its spring trip with a 8-1 loss to Stevenson University Friday (march 17) afternoon. The Pioneers drop to 2-5 overall, while Stevenson is 1-6 on the season.
Marietta's lone point came at No. 2 doubles where
Bryce Emerick (Hyndman, Pa./HOPE for Hyndman Charter) and
Will Watson (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) posted an 8-5 win over Peter Appiah and Douglas Vaughan. The Mustangs won the other two doubles matches for a 2-1 lead. Bryan Gieselman and Wornden Ly downed
Jack Hirschfield (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) and
Shane Spencer (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion) at No. 1, 8-4. In the final doubles match, Tony Beres and Kevin Slujtner beat
Brandon DeCicco (Mineral Wells, W.Va./Parkersburg) and
Alex Hogan (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta), 8-0.
Stevenson posted straight-set wins in each of the six singles matches. At No. 1, Gieselman defeated Spencer, 6-3 and 6-3. Ly got past Hirschfield at No. 2, 7-5 and 6-3, while Vaughan won at No. 3, 6-3 and 6-0, over Emerick.
Appiah downed Watson at No. 4, 6-2 and 6-3. At No. 5, Slujtner beat Hogan, 6-1 and 6-0. In the final match, Beres defeated DeCicco, 6-0 and 7-5.
Marietta opens Ohio Athletic Conference play on Friday (March 24) against Muskingum. The match starts at 1:00 p.m. Fans can follow all the Pioneer teams all year long at
