WESTERVILLE, Ohio — The Marietta College men's tennis team lost an Ohio Athletic Conference match at Otterbein University Wednesday (April 13) afternoon by the score of 9-0. The Pioneers fall to 9-11 overall and 1-2 in the OAC. Otterbein improves to 9-6 on the season and 3-1 in conference play.
Otterbein swept the doubles play for a 3-0 lead. In the top spot, David Seckel and Will Willson blanked
Shane Spencer (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion) and
Drew Stone (Davisville, W.Va./Parkersburg), 8-0. Ben Keen and Zach McDivitt were 8-3 winners over
Alex Schaeffer (Louisville, Ohio/Marlington) and
Muhammad Kingson (Williamstown, W.Va./Williamstown) at No. 2, while Derek Krieger and Kevin Adell took down
Tanner Sigman (Winfield, W.Va./Poca) and
Chase Leisure (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) at No. 3, 8-2.
Willson topped Schaeffer at No. 1 singles, 6-2 and 6-0. At No. 2, Seckel posted a 6-1, 6-0 win against Spencer and McDivitt downed Kingson at No. 3, 6-1 and 6-1.
At No. 4, Perry Williams beat Sigman, 6-2 and 6-0. Keen and Tyler Wharton posted identical 6-0, 6-0 wins at Nos. 5 and 6, respectively. Keen beat Stone and Wharton topped Leisure.
Marietta has a full weekend slate with four games at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio. The Pioneers play Baldwin Wallace and Heidelberg on Saturday (April 16) and then take on Ohio Northern and Muskingum on Sunday (April 17).
