RICHMOND, Ind. — The Marietta College men's tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision at Earlham College Wednesday (March 30) afternoon. The loss drops the Pioneers to 9-9 on the season, while Earlham improves to 6-8 overall.
Tanner Sigman (Winfield, W.Va./Poca) provided Marietta's lone team point. Sigman defeated Adam Schwartz at No. 4 singles, 7-5, 5-7 and 1-0 (13-11).
The Quakers swept all three doubles matches for the early lead. Vitalii Stadnyk and Jack Ventura-Cruess beat
Shane Spencer (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion) and
Drew Stone (Davisville, W.Va./Parkersburg) in the top spot by an 8-1 score. Adarsh Singh and Schwartz posted the same score at No. 2 over
Muhammad Kingson (Williamstown, W.Va./Williamstown) and
Alex Schaeffer (Louisville, Ohio/Marlington). At No. 3, Vojislav Tatarevic and Nicola Manni were 8-3 winners against
Brendan Adkinson (Bellevue, Ohio/Bellevue) and Sigman.
In the top singles match, Schaeffer fell to Stadnyk, 6-1 and 6-2. At No. 2, Singh was a 6-1, 7-6 (7-2) winner over Spencer. Manni downed Kingson at No. 3, 6-4 and 6-0.
Tatarevic and Ventura-Cruess each posted straight-set wins at Nos. 5 and 6, respectivelt. Tatarevic beat Stone, 6-0 and 6-0, while Ventura-Cruess beat Adkinson, 6-0 and 6-1.
