MARIETTA, Ohio — The University of Mount Union blanked Marietta College 9-0 Tuesday (April 7) afternoon in Ohio Athletic Conference men's tennis action. The Pioneers fall to 2-8 overall and 0-2 in the OAC. Mount Union moves to 11-4 on the season and 3-2 in the OAC.
Mount Union started the match with a 2-0 lead as the Pioneers forfeited at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.
Rob DeMarco and Jeff Williams posted an 8-3 win over
Alex Schaeffer (Louisville/Marlington) and
Tanner Sigman (Winfield, W.Va./Poca) at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2, Malcolm Leake and Jackson Schneider were 8-0 winners against
Brendan Adkinson (Bellevue/Bellevue) and
Noah Lenz (Willard/Willard).
The Purple Raiders posted straight-set victories in each of the five singles matches. Leake downed Schaeffer at No. 1 and Demarco beat Sigman at No. 2 by identical 6-1, 6-1 scores.
At No. 3, Ben Swope blanked Adkinson, 6-0 and 6-0. Williams beat Lenz at No. 4, 6-0 and 6-0, while Schneider defeated
Drew Stone (Davisville, W.Va./Parkersburg) at No. 5 by the same score.
Marietta travels to Mason, Ohio for three OAC matches this weekend. The Pioneers play Baldwin Wallace University and Heidelberg University on Saturday (April 11) and Ohio Northern University on Sunday (April 12). The matches will be played at the Lindner Family Tennis Center, site of the OAC Championship.
