MEDINA, Ohio — The Marietta College men's tennis team ended the regular season with a 9-0 loss at John Carroll University Saturday (April 25) evening. The loss drops Marietta to 4-13 overall and 1-7 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. John Carroll improves to 8-11 on the season and 7-1 in the OAC.
The best match of the day came at No. 1 doubles where Tyler Cole and Kyle Mollison outlasted
Alex Schaeffer (Louisville/Marlington) and
Tanner Sigman (Winfield, W.Va./Poca), 8-6. At No. 2, Scott Adsit and Dillon O'Brien blanked Brandon Adkinson and
Chase Leisure (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg), 8-0. Nick Siciliano and Alex Guthrie downed
Drew Stone (Davisville, W.Va./Parkersburg) and
Jon Fitzwater (Rising Sun, Md./Rising Sun) by the same 8-0 score.
Jad Abdul-Aal beat Schaeffer at No. 1 singles, 6-2 and 6-4. Mollison was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Sigman at No. 2, while Adsit beat
Justin McGinnis (New Kensington, Pa./Kiski Area) at No. 3, 6-0 and 6-2.
At No. 4, Tyler Cole posted a 6-0, 6-1 win against Adkinson. O'Brien won at No. 5 over Leisure, 6-1 and 6-1. Ian Kurela secured the sweep with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 6 over Stone.
Marietta will be the No. 8 seed in next week's OAC Tournament. John Carroll finished in a three-way tie atop the OAC standings and earned the No. 1 seed after the ties were broken. The Blue Streaks will host Marietta on Tuesday (April 28) at 3:30 p.m.
