MASON, Ohio — The Marietta College men's tennis team lost to Ohio Northern University 9-0 Sunday (April 12) morning at the Lindner Family Tennis Center. The Pioneers are currently 2-11 on the season and 0-5 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Ohio Northern improves to 6-7 overall and 3-2 in the OAC.
The Polar Bears led 3-0 after doubles. At No. 1, John Mostowy and Sam Prewitt beat
Alex Schaeffer (Louisville/Marlington) and
Tanner Sigman (Winfield, W.Va./Poca), 8-0. Alex Starr and Andy Starr downed
Brendan Adkinson (Bellevue/Bellevue) and
Chase Leisure (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) at No. 2 by the same 8-0 score. Alex Altman and Gary Hess posted an 8-3 win at No. 3 over
Jon Fitzwater (Rising Sun, Md./Rising Sun) and
Drew Stone (Davisville, W.Va./Parkersburg).
Ohio Northern posted straight-set victories in all six singles matches. Mostowy beat Schaefer at No. 1, 6-1 and 6-0. Prewitt notched a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 against Sigman, while Alex Starr was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Adkinson at No. 3.
Altman defeated Leisure at No. 4, 6-2 and 6-3. Hess posted a 6-1, 7-5 victory against Stone at No. 5 and Alex Genbauffe completed the sweep with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 6 over Fitzwater.
