MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College men's tennis team opened Ohio Athletic Conference play with a 9-0 loss to visiting Otterbein University Wednesday (April 1) afternoon. The Pioneers fall to 2-7 overall and 0-1 in the OAC. The Cardinals are 5-9 on the season and 2-1 in league play.
Once again Marietta was short handed for the match and gave away three points before the match even started. The Pioneers defaulted at No. 3 doubles and Nos. 5 and 6 singles.
The Cardinals swept the top two doubles match to secure the team victory before singles play began. David Seckel and Will Willson posted an 8-4 win over
Brendan Adkinson (Bellevue/Bellevue) and
Alex Schaeffer (Louisville/Marlington) at No. 1, while Kevin Adell and Jacob Devore blanked
Chase Leisure (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) and
Noah Lenz (Willard/Willard), 8-0, at No. 2.
Willson and Kendall Coffman notched identical 6-1, 6-0 wins at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, respectively. Willson beat Schaeffer and Coffman downed Leisure.
Zach McDivitt beat Adkinson at No. 3, 6-0 and 6-0, while Sam Lawless won at No. 4 against Lenz by the same score.
