Box ScoreNEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Marietta College men's tennis team rolled over rival Muskingum University 9-0 Saturday (April 5) afternoon. The Pioneers improve to 3-6 on the season and 1-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. The Fighting Muskies drop to 0-4 on the season and 0-4 in the OAC.
Marietta set the tone early sweeping the doubles play in convincing style.
Karl Grant (Elmhurst, Ill./York) and
Alex Schaeffer (Louisville/Marlington) were 8-4 winners over Parker Abraham and Cody Engstrom at No. 1.
Justin McGinnis (New Kensington, Pa./Kiski Area) and
Tanner Sigman (Winfield, W.Va./Poca) beat Mitch Hazzard and Brandon Ortiz at No. 2, 8-1, while
Brendan Adkinson (Bellevue/Bellevue) and Teddy daub downed Gene Montgomery and Ben Windland by the same score at No. 3.
Schaeffer edged Engstrom at No. 1 singles, 6-4 and 6-4. Daub and Grant recorded 6-0, 6-0 wins at Nos. 2 and 3, respectively. Daub defeated Abraham and Grant beat Windland.
Sigman took the No. 4 match from Grant Joy, 6-0 and 6-1. McGinnis downed Hazzard at No. 5, 6-3 and 6-1, while
Chase Leisure (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) competed the sweep with a 6-1, 6-2 win against Montgomery at No. 6.
