Men's Tennis season comes to an end at Otterbein in OAC quarterfinals

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – No. 1 seeded Otterbein University defeated Marietta College, the No. 8 seed, 5-0 in the quarterfinals of the 2014 Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Tournament Wednesday (April 30) afternoon. Rainy conditions forced the match inside the Clements Recreation Center.

Marietta finishes the season with an overall record of 3-14. The Pioneers say goodbye to senior Teddy Daub (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg). The Cardinals advance to the semifinals with a 16-4 season record.

Otterbein swept the doubles play for an early 3-0 lead. Will Willson and David Seckel downed Alex Schaeffer (Louisville/Marlington) and Karl Grant (Elmhurst, Ill./York) at No. 1 by the score of 8-2. The Cardinals posted shutouts in the bottom two spots. Ryan Shutt and Tyler Gibbons blanked Daub and Tanner Sigman (Winfield, W.Va./Poca) at No. 2, 8-0, while Jacob Devore and Kendall Coffman beat Justin McGinnis (New Kensington, Pa./Kiski Area) and Brendan Adkinson (Bellevue/Bellevue) by the same score.

In singles play, Coffman posted a 6-0, 6-0 win over Grant at No. 3. The Cardinals' final team point came at No. 4, where Zach McDivitt defeated Sigman, 6-1 and 6-1.

Willson was up a set at No. 1 against Schaeffer and Seckel took the first set from Daub at No. 2 when Otterbein secured the fifth and deciding point. The Nos. 5 and 6 singles matches were never started.
