Box ScoreMARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College men's tennis team closed out the regular season Saturday (April 26) with a 9-0 loss to John Carroll University. The Pioneers fall to 3-13 overall and 1-7 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. John Carroll is currently 9-9 on the season and 6-2 in the OAC.
Marietta will be the No. 8 seed in the OAC Tournament. The Pioneers travel to top-seeded Otterbein University for the first round on Wednesday (April 30). Match time is set for 3:30 p.m.
The Blue Streaks swept all three doubles to start the match. Sean Graham and Kyle Mollison took the No. 1 match against
Alex Schaeffer (Louisville/Marlington) and
Karl Grant (Elmhurst, Ill./York), 8-3. At No. 2, Jad Abdul-Aal and Nick Siciliano were 8-1 winners over
Teddy Daub (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) and
Tanner Sigman (Winfield, W.Va./Poca).
Justin McGinnis (New Kensington, Pa./Kiski Area) and
Brendan Adkinson (Bellevue/Bellevue) dropped the No. 3 match to Hunter Pellegrini and Eric Grimaldi by an 8-0 margin.
Abdul-Aal downed Schaeffer at No. 1 single by the score of 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-5). At No. 2, Graham edged Daub, 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (10-1). The remaining four singles matches were straight-set wins for JCU.
Grant fell to Mollison at No. 3, 6-4 and 6-3. At No. 4, Siciliano posted a 6-0, 6-1 win over Sigman, while Pellegrini downed McGinnis, 6-1 and 6-0, at No. 5. In the final singles spot, Grimaldi defeated
Chase Leisure (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg), 6-0 and 6-2.
