Results (PDF)OAK RIDGE, Tenn. – The Marietta College women's rowing team placed third in the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association Women's Points Trophy Saturday (April 19) afternoon. The Pioneers earned 186 points and finished behind Purdue University's 247 points and Nova Southeastern University's 216.
"There was great racing experience gained by both crews this weekend," head coach
Brad Hemmerly said. "It will serve us well through the remainder of our racing season."
First on the 2,000-meter Melton Hill Lake course Saturday morning was the Pioneers' varsity 8+ crew. Marietta placed fourth in the semifinal race to earn a spot in the "B" final.
George Washington won the semifinal with a time of 7:06.2 followed by Purdue (7:08.0), Dayton (7:10.2) and Marietta (7:17.0). The Pioneers were the only non-Division I shell in the race.

In the afternoon "B" final, the Pioneers faced a field comprised of Division I and Division II opponents and cruised to victory. Marietta posted a time of 7:08.7 and crossed the line well ahead of the field. Wichita State was second at 7:16.7 followed Oklahoma City (7:17.1), Rollins (7:28.4), Florida (7:31.8) and Florida Tech (7:33.9).
Racing for the first time on the weekend, Marietta's second varsity 8+ crew placed second behind Kansas State. The Wildcats finished with a time of 6:58.9. Marietta crossed the line in 7:17.1 ahead of George Washington (7:20.4), Purdue (7:24.1) and Dayton (7:28.2).

The Pioneer men and women combined to finish fifth in the overall points trophy standings. Purdue took top honors with 650 points. Virginia was second with 433, followed by Florida Tech with 373, North Carolina with 291 and Marietta with 270.
