Box ScoreMARIETTA, Ohio – Davis & Elkins College posted a 9-0 shutout victory over Marietta College Thursday (April 17) in men's tennis action at the Beren Tennis Center. The Pioneers slip to 3-12 on the season, while Davis & Elkins improves to 13-6 overall.
The Senators swept the doubles play in convincing fashion. At No. 1, Charles Brunel and Simon Meriau downed
Karl Grant (Elmhurst, Ill./York) and
Alex Schaeffer (Louisville/Marlington) by an 8-2 tally. William Hill and Thomas Judd defeated
Teddy Daub (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) and
Tanner Sigman (Winfield, W.Va./Poca) 8-0 at No. 2, while
Brendan Adkinson (Bellevue/Bellevue) and
Justin McGinnis (New Kensington, Pa./Kiski Area) fell 8-1 to Jonathan Gainer and Vincent Hamon at No. 3.
Davis & Elkins continued its winning ways with straight-set wins at all six singles positions. Hamon beat Schaeffer at No. 1 by the scores of 6-1 and 6-4. Brunel posted a 6-0, 6-1 win over Daub at No. 2, while Judd blanked Grant, 6-0 and 6-0, at No. 3.
At No. 4, Sigman dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision to Hill. Guilherme Hubsch took the No. 5 match against McGinnis, 6-0 and 6-2. In the final single match, Gainer downed
Chase Leisure (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg), 6-1 and 6-0.
