Crusaders defeat Men's Tennis 8-1

MARIETTA, Ohio – Capital University defeated Marietta College by the score of 8-1 Tuesday (April 15) afternoon in Ohio Athletic Conference men's tennis action. Due to the inclement weather, the match was played indoors at the Marietta Tennis Center.

Marietta falls to 3-11 on the season and 1-6 in the OAC. The Crusaders improve to 8-6 overall and 5-2 in conference play.

Sophomore Alex Schaeffer (Louisville/Marlington) accounted for the Pioneers' lone team point. Schaeffer won a three-set thriller at No. 1 singles over Luke Buchanan. After dropping the first set 3-6, Schaeffer bounced back to take the next two sets, 6-3 and 7-5.

Capita started the match by sweeping doubles. Buchanan and Dale Booher posted an 8-1 win against Schaeffer and Karl Grant (Elmhurst, Ill./York) at No. 1. Kenny Duncan and Spencer Walter downed Teddy Daub (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) and Tanner Sigman (Winfield, W.Va./Poca) at No. 2 by the same score. Brendan Adkinson (Bellevue/Bellevue) and Justin McGinnis (New Kensington, Pa./Kiski Area) fell at No. 3 to Jared Judson and Beau Streety, 8-0.

Booher needed three sets to get past Daub at No. 2 singles. Daub won the opening set, 7-6 (9-7) before dropping the next two, 6-2 and 6-1. Duncan was a 6-2, 6-4 winner at No. 3 over Grant.

Walter beat Sigman at No. 4, 6-1 and 6-1, while Streety posted a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5 versus McGinnis. Judson picked up Capital's final point with an 8-0 pro-set victory over Chase Leisure (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) at No. 6.
