Box ScoreMASON, Ohio – The Marietta College men's tennis team lost to the defending Ohio Athletic Conference champion Ohio Northern University Sunday (April 13) morning at the Lindner Family Tennis Center. The Pioneers drop to 3-10 overall and 1-5 in the OAC, while the Polar Bears improve to 10-4 and 4-2 in the OAC.
Ohio Northern jumped to an early 3-0 lead after doubles play. John Mostowy and Josh Saunders took the No. 1 match against
Teddy Daub (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) and
Alex Schaeffer (Louisville/Marlington), 8-2. Do Thai and Blake Troller downed
Karl Grant (Elmhurst, Ill./York) and
Tanner Sigman (Winfield, W.Va./Poca) at No. 2 by an 8-1 margin, while Sam Prewitt and Alex Starr took the No. 3 match over
Chase Leisure (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) and
Justin McGinnis (New Kensington, Pa./Kiski Area), 8-0.
The Polar Bears completed the sweep with straight-set wins in all six singles matches. Saunders blanked Schaeffer at No. 1, 6-0 and 6-0. Thai and Mostowy won Nos. 2 and 3, respectively by identical 6-0, 6-2 scores. Thai beat Daub and Mostowy defeated Grant.
At No. 4, Troller recorded a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Sigman. Prewitt beat McGinnis at No. 5, 6-0 and 6-0, while Starr matched Troller with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6 against Leisure.
