MASON, Ohio – It was a tough day for the Marietta College men's tennis team Saturday (April 12) afternoon as the Pioneers dropped pair of 9-0 matches to Ohio Athletic Conference opponents. Marietta falls to 3-9 overall and 1-4 in the OAC.

In the first match of the day, the Pioneers squared off against Heidelberg University (7-6, 2-3 OAC). Although the doubles matches were close, the Student Princes took all three and led 3-0 heading into singles.

At No. 1, Zach Schwenning and Matt McDivitt edged Teddy Daub (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) and Alex Schaeffer (Louisville/Marlington), 8-5. Dorian Kempf and Tyler Flickinger were 8-4 winners at No. 2 over Karl Grant (Elmhurst, Ill./York) and Tanner Sigman (Winfield, W.Va./Poca). Dan Driscoll and Benjamin Moore posted an 8-2 win against Chase Leisure (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) and Justin McGinnis (New Kensington, Pa./Kiski Area) at No. 3.

Schwenning and Schaeffer played a great match at No. 1 singles with Schwenning barely escaping with a 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 win. The No. 2 match was also a battle as Kempf needed three sets to beat Daub, 7-6 (7-0), 2-6 and 6-3.

Heidelberg won the bottom four singles matches in straight sets. Moore beat Grant at No. 3, 6-1 and 6-4. Flickinger took down Sigman, 6-1 and 6-0, at No. 4. McDivitt was a 6-2, 6-0 winner against McGinnis at No. 5, while Driscoll defeated Leisure at No. 6, 75 and 6-0.

Following the Heidelberg match, the Pioneers turned right around to face league-leading Baldwin Wallace University (15-2, 4-1 OAC). The Yellow Jackets eased through the doubles matches dropping just a single game.

Doug Ganim and Peter Harris blanked Grant and Schaeffer at No. 1, 8-0. Kevin Frederick and Zach Elibin defeated Daub and Brendan Adkinson (Bellevue/Bellevue) by the same score at No. 3. Kyle Patterson and Brad Minrovic completed the doubles sweep with an 8-1 win over McGinnis and Sigman at No. 2.

It didn't get any easier for the Pioneers in singles. BW posted quick victories in the top three spots. Patterson, Harris and Ganim won at Nos. 1-3, respectively. Patterson downed Schaeffer, 6-0 and 6-1. Harris posted a 6-0, 6-0 win over Daub, while Ganim beat Grant, 6-1 and 6-1.

Sigman took Minrovic to three sets at No. 4 before falling, 6-0, 3-6, 12-10. Nathan Katz and Letch Radomirov notched wins at Nos. 5 and 6 by the same 6-0, 6-1 score. Katz beat McGinnis and Radomirov downed Leisure.
