Women's Tennis hooks the Muskies with a 7-2 victory

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – Marietta College posted a 7-2 win over Muskingum University Tuesday (April 9) afternoon in Ohio Athletic Conference women's tennis action. The Pioneers improve to 2-7 overall and 2-1 in the OAC, while the Muskies fall to 0-5 and 0-4 in the OAC.

The Pioneers took a 2-1 lead after doubles play as the bottom two tandems picked up victories. Kelsey Jeffrey and Natalie Turner (Marysville/Marysville) defeated Renee Staudt and Cassandra Sarver at No. 2 by the score of 8-5, while Mollee Brown (Fairmont, W.Va./East Fairmont) and Lauren Bush (Kent/Theodore Roosevelt) were 8-4 winners over Johanna Smith and Autumn Nelson at No. 3.

Muskingum's No. 1 team of Lindsay Mullen and Rebecca Keeley downed Cate Gisser (Westlake/Magnificat) and Alex Seals (Marysville, Ind./New Washington) by the score of 8-1.

Gisser and Seals bounced back to win their singles matches. Gisser took down Mullen at No. 1, 6-1 and 6-4, while Seals was a 6-3 and 6-1 winner at No. 5 over Nelson.

Sarver earned the Muskies other team point with a three-set win at No. 3 singles over Jeffrey. Sarver dropped the first set 4-6, before taking the next two sets, 6-4 and 6-3.

Turner, Bush and Brown claimed Marietta's other team points. Turner defeated Keeley at No. 2 in three sets. Set scores were 3-6, 6-4 and 10-7 in a pro-set.

At No. 4, Bush beat Staudt, 6-3 and 6-3. Brown tallied a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6 over Smith.

Marietta will play a doubleheader at home on Saturday (April 13). The Pioneers will face Heidelberg University at 1:00 p.m. and then play Ohio Northern University at 6:00 p.m. Fans can follow the Pioneers all season long at pioneers.marietta.edu.
