MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College men's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to Capital University Saturday (April 6) afternoon. The Pioneers fall to 6-4 overall and 1-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Capital improves to 9-3 overall and 4-0 in the OAC.
Capital's Luke Buchanan and Spencer Walter downed
Alex Schaeffer (Louisville/Marlington) and
Ashton Whiteleather (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) at No. 1 doubles, by the score of 8-0. John Murray and Kenny Duncan were 8-3 winners at No. 2 over
Teddy Daub (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) and
Karl Grant (Elmhurst, Ill./York). Jared Judson and Gian Carlo DiMichelangelo completed the doubles sweep with an 8-5 win against
Andy Knauff (Valencia, Pa./Mars Area) and
Tanner Sigman (Winfield, W.Va./Poca) at No. 3.
Buchanan beat Whiteleather at the top singles spot, 7-6 (8-6) and 6-4. Murray defeated Schaeffer at No. 2 in three sets, 5-7, 7-6 (6-1) and 10-5. Duncan was a 6-2, 6-2 winner over Daub at No. 3.
Walter posted a 6-0, 6-0 shutout over Knauff at No. 4, while DiMichelango downed Grant at No. 5 by the scores of 6-3 and 6-2. At No. 6, Judson was a 6-3 and 7-5 winner over
Taimur Ahmed (Islamabad, Pakistan/Froebels International).
