BEREA, Ohio – The Marietta College women's tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision at Baldwin Wallace University Saturday (April 27) afternoon in the regular season finale for both schools. The Pioneers are 2-13 overall and 2-7 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Yellow Jackets are 11-10 and 6-3 OAC.
Marietta's lone victory came from freshman
Mollee Brown (Fairmont, W.Va./East Fairmont) at No. 6 singles. Brown defeated BW's Elizabeth Keller 6-2 and 6-4.
The Yellow Jackets lead 3-0 after doubles. Rebecca Mittler and Kelsey Blatt downed
Cate Gisser (Westlake/Magnificat) and
Alex Seals (Marysville, Ind./New Washington), while Morgan Baker and Mackenzi Baker defeated Kelsey Jeffrey and
Natalie Turner (Marysville/Marysville), both by 8-0 scores.
At No. 3 doubles, Mackenzie Donalson and Whitney Yoder were 8-2 winners over Brown and
Lauren Bush (Kent/Theodore Roosevelt).
BW notched straight-set wins at the top five singles positions. Mittler beat Giser at No. 1, 6-0 and 6-2. Blatt was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at No. 2 over Turner.
Morgan Baker, Donalson and Danielle Rueger picked up wins at Nos. 3-5, respectively. Baker blanked Jeffrey 6-0 and 6-0, while Donalson posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Bush. Rueger defeated Seals, 6-0 and 6-0.
Marietta will be either the No. 6 or No. 7 seed in the upcoming OAC Tournament. The Pioneers will play on the road on Tuesday (Aril 30) against an opponent to be determined. Match time will be 3:30 p.m.
