MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College women's tennis team closed out the home portion of its 2013 schedule with a 9-0 loss to the University of Mount Union Tuesday (April 23) afternoon.
The Pioneers drop to 2-12 overall and 2-6 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. The Purple Raiders improve to 13-5 on the season and 7-2 in the OAC.
Mount Union led 3-0 after doubles play. MacKenzie Jenkins and Megan Reichert defeated
Cate Gisser (Westlake/Magnificat) and
Alex Seals (Marysville, Ind./New Washington) at No. 1 by the score of 8-2. At No. 2, Megan Czuchra and Lauren Olivier posted an 8-3 win over Kelsey Jeffrey and
Natalie Turner (Marysville/Marysville).
Mount's Taylor Dowling and partner Mandy Wise were victorious at No. 3 against
Mollee Brown (Fairmont, W.Va./East Fairmont) and
Lauren Bush (Kent/Theodore Roosevelt) by the score of 8-2.
The Purple Raiders swept the singles matches in straight sets. Jenkins beat Gisser in the top spot, 6-1 and 6-2. Wise and Czuchra won at Nos. 2 and 3, respectively. Wise downed Turner, 6-0 and 6-0, while Czuchra posted a 6-3, 6-0 win against Jeffrey.
Bush fell to Downling at No. 4, 6-1 and 6-2. Reichert defeated Seals at No. 5, 6-1, 6-1 and Olivier was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at No. 6 over Brown.
