WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Marietta College men's tennis team won for the fifth time in the last six matches with a 9-0 victory at Waynesburg University (Pa.) Tuesday (April 2) afternoon. [

The win improves the Pioneers to 6-3 on the season. Waynesburg falls to 3-3 on the season.
Freshmen
Alex Schaeffer (Louisville/Marlington) and
Ashton Whiteleather (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) started the match with a quick 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles against Isaiah Cochran and Colin Phillips.
Andy Knauff (Valencia, Pa./Mars Area) and
Tanner Sigman (Winfield, W.Va./Poca) followed close behind at No. 3 doubles with an 8-2 win over Zack Graham and Corey Rearick.
The team of
Teddy Daub (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) and
Karl Grant (Elmhurst, Ill./York) put the Pioneers ahead 3-0 with their 8-6 defeat of Jon Anderson and Philip Littlejohn.
Marietta recorded straight-set victories in the bottom five singles matches. Schaeffer downed Littlejohn at No. 2, 6-1 and 6-1. At No. 3, Daub posted a 6-1, 6-4 win over Anderson, while Knauff took down Rearick at No. 4, 6-3 and 6-2.
Grant picked up the win at No. 5 with a 6-2, 6-2 victory against Phillips.
Taimur Ahmed (Islamabad, Pakistan/Froebels International) made quick work of Graham at No. 6 blanking him 6-0 and 6-0.
In the top spot, Whiteleather and Cochran split the first two sets. Cochran took the first set 6-3 and Whiteleather evened the match with a 6-1 win in the second. Whiteleather completed the team sweep with a 10-4 tiebreak win.
