MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College women's tennis team dropped a pair of Ohio Athletic Conference matches Saturday (April 13) afternoon. The Pioneers lost a hard-fought match to Heidelberg University by the score of 5-4 and then fell to Ohio Northern University 9-0.
Marietta is now 2-9 overall and 2-3 in the OAC. Heidelberg moves to 4-8 on the season and 3-2 in the OAC, while Ohio Northern improves to 20-4 overall and 6-0 in the league.
Heidelberg took the top two doubles matches for an early 2-1 lead. Marietta's
Mollee Brown (Fairmont, W.Va./East Fairmont) and
Lauren Bush (Kent/Theodore Roosevelt) defeated Rachel Brushaber and Melisaa Lovati at No. 3 doubles by the score of 8-6.
Marietta's other points against the Student Princes came in the bottom three singles matches. Bush beat Brushaber at No. 4, 7-6 (7-4) and 6-1.
Alex Seals (Marysville, Ind./New Washington) was a 6-1, 7-5 winner over Erin Gorrel at No. 5, while Brown downed Lovati at No. 6, 6-2 and 6-4.
