ADA, Ohio – Ohio Northern University blanked Marietta College 9-0 in Ohio Athletic Conference men's tennis action Friday (March 29) afternoon. The loss drops the Pioneers to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the OAC. The Polar Bears improve to 7-4, 2-0 OAC.
Ohio Northern swept the doubles play to take a 3-0 lead. The Polar Bears then posted straight-set wins at all six singles positions to secure the shutout.
Joey Frank and Do Thai defeated
Alex Schaeffer (Louisville/Marlington) and
Ashton Whiteleather (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) at No. 1 doubles by the score of 8-1. At No. 2, John Mostowy and Josh Saunders downed
Teddy Daub (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) and
Karl Grant (Elmhurst, Ill./York), 8-3, while
Andy Knauff (Valencia, Pa./Mars Area) and
Tanner Sigman (Winfield, W.Va./Poca) fell at No. 3 to Sam Prewitt and Blake Troller by the same score.
Frank posted a 6-0, 6-1 win over Whiteleather at No. 1 singles. Thai defeated Schaeffer at No. 2 by the score of 6-1 and 6-1, while Saunders was victorious against Daub at No. 3, 6-2 and 6-0.
At No. 4, Mostowy blanked Knauff 6-0 and 6-0. Troller was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Grant at No. 5 and Mike King completed the sweep with a win against
Taimur Ahmed (Islamabad, Pakistan/Froebels International) at No. 6 by the score of 6-1 and 6-0.
