MARIETTA, Ohio – The University of Mount Union defeated Marietta College in both men's and women's tennis Monday (April 23) afternoon. The Purple Raider women blanked the Pioneers 9-0 in Alliance, while the men down the Pioneers by the score of 8-1 in Marietta. [

Marietta's men are now 7-6 on the season and 2-5 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while Mount Union improves to 12-7 and 5-3. The Pioneer women fall to 0-10 and 0-6 OAC, while the Purple Raiders are 12-6 and 5-3 OAC.
The Pioneer's lone team point in the men's match came at No. 2 doubles.
Karl Grant (Elmhurst, Ill./York) and
Andy Knauff (Valencia, Pa./Mars Area) were 9-8 (7-3) winners over Patrick Yackmack and Ben Swope.
Mount Union won the other two doubles matches. At No. 1, Nate Fockler and Nick Fockler defeated
Teddy Daub (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) and
Dave Koscielny (Belleville, Mich./Plymouth Christian) by the score of 8-3. Drew LeGendre and Zach Nelson beat
Taimur Ahmed (Islamabad, Pakistan/Froebels International) and
Ryan Gontero (Kent/Kent Roosevelt) 8-5 at No. 3.
The Purple Raiders swept the singles play with Nate and Nick Fockler taking the top two spots, respectively. Nate was a 6-3, 6-3 winner over Daub, while Nick defeated Koscielny at No. 2, 6-0 and 6-2. Yackmack won at No. 3 over Knauff, 5-7, 6-2 and 1-0 (10-6).
Swope and LeGendre posted straight-set wins at Nos. 4 and 5. Swope posted a 6-3, 6-3 decision against Grant and LeGendre defeated
Tyler Pullekines (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin), 6-2 and 6-2. Jeff Looker completed the sweep by beating Ahmed at No. 6, 6-2, 3-6 and 1-0 (11-9).
In the women's match, Mount Union jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play. Krissy Hallett and Megan Czuchra downed
Caitlin Cornell (South Park, Pa./South Park) and
Cate Gisser (Westlake/Magnificat) at the top spot, 8-2. Mandy Wise and Hannah Arvidson posted an 8-1 win against
Lauren Bush (Kent/Theodore Roosevelt) and
Jamie Taylor (Allen, Md./Parkside), while Courtney Adamski and Taylor Dowling beat
Sarah Snow (Twentynine Palms, Calif./29 Palms) and
Natalie Turner (Marysville/Marysville) at No. 3 by the score of 8-0.
Hallett beat Cornell, 6-0 and 6-1, at No. singles. Wise blanked Gisser at No. 2 by the scores of 6-0, 6-0. At No. 3, Arvidson was a 6-2, 6-0 winner against
Kelsey Jeffrey (The Plains/Athens).
Czuchra, Adamsky and MacKenzie Jenkins all won in straight sets at the bottom three positions. Czucha took the No. 4 match by the scores of 6-1 and 6-1 over Bush. Adamsky notched a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 versus Snow, while Jenkins defeated Turner 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6.
The Pioneers host John Carroll University's men and women on Thursday (April 26) at 3 p.m. Marietta's women travel to Muskingum for a non-conference match on Wednesday (April 25) for a 4:30 p.m. match.
