MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College men's and women's tennis teams both dropped 9-0 decisions Tuesday (April 17) afternoon at the Beren Tennis Center. Ohio Northern University defeated the men, while Otterbein University were victorious against the women. [

The Marietta men are 7-4 overall and 2-3 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Ohio Northern improves to 8-4 and 6-0 in the OAC. The Pioneer women fall to 0-9 and 0-5 in the conference, while Otterbein moves to 6-9 and 3-2 in the OAC.
The Polar Bears swept the men's doubles matches. The No. 1 team of Joey Frank and Nick Kowalczyk downed Marietta's
Teddy Daub (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) and
Dave Koscielny (Belleville, Mich./Plymouth Christian) by the score of 8-0. Andrew Korba and Josh Saunders were 8-4 winners over
Karl Grant (Elmhurst, Ill./York) and
Andy Knauff (Valencia, Pa./Mars Area) at No. 2. ONU completed the sweep with an 8-0 win at No. 3 when Brian Bruin and Sam Prewitt blanked
Taimur Ahmed (Islamabad, Pakistan/Froebels International) and
Ryan Gontero (Kent/Kent Roosevelt).
Ohio Northern won all six singles in straight sets. Frank defeated Daub at No. 1, 6-1 and 6-0. Kowalczyk was a 6-1, 6-2 winner at No. 2 against Koscielny, while Saunders downed Knauff at No. 3, 6-3 and 6-0.
Korba, Mike King and Prewitt posted wins at Nos. 4-6, respectively. Korba beat Grant, 6-2, 6-1. King defeated
Tyler Pullekines (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) by the scores of 6-2 and 6-0. Prewitt defeated
Abdul Sheikh (Columbus/Saint Johnsbury Acad.) 6-1, 6-1.
The Otterbein women quickly jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles. Taylor Jordan and Julie Stroyne blanked
Caitlin Cornell (South Park, Pa./South Park) and
Cate Gisser (Westlake/Magnificat) at No. 1, 8-0. The team of Emily Harper and Kelsey Leachko were 8-1 winners at No. 2 against
Jamie Taylor (Allen, Md./Parkside) and
Lauren Bush (Kent/Theodore Roosevelt). At No. 3, Cassie Brungarth and Christine Kuester shutout
Kelsey Jeffrey (The Plains/Athens) and
Natalie Turner (Marysville/Marysville), 8-0.
The Cardinals posted straight-set wins in all six singles matches. Stroyne posted a 6-0, 6-0 win over Cornell at No. 1. Jordan defeated Gisser at No. 2, 6-1 and 6-4. At No. 3, Brungarth beat Jeffrey by the scores of 6-0 and 6-1.
Bush fell to Angela Sammons at No. 4, 6-0 and 6-2. Emma Krummel defeated
Sarah Snow (Twentynine Palms, Calif./29 Palms) 6-2 and 6-2 at No. 5, while Leachko posted a 6-0, 6-0 win over Turner at No. 6.
The Marietta men are right back on the courts Wednesday (April 18) for a 3 p.m. match at Otterbein. The women's next match is Saturday (April 21) when they host John Carroll University at 1 p.m.
