Men's Tennis dispatches Muskingum

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Marietta College men's tennis team won a key Ohio Athletic Conference road match Tuesday (April 10) at Muskingum University. The Pioneers posted a 6-3 victory over the Fighting Muskies to improve to 7-2 on the season and 2-1 in the OAC. Muskingum falls to 2-4 overall, 0-4 in the OAC. [Box Score]

“This was a big win for Marietta Men's Tennis,” said Interim Head Coach Mike Carpenter (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg). “Its ben a few years since we have defeated Muskingum. I'm proud of the way the team played today.”

The Muskies took an early 2-1 lead after doubles play. Yash Lalwani and Sebastian Werger defeated Teddy Daub (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) and Dave Koscielny (Belleville, Mich./Plymouth Christian) at No. 1 by the score of 8-6. Muskingum also picked up the point at No. 3 when Derek Reichley and Ryan Reichley defeated Taimur Ahmed (Islamabad, Pakistan/Froebels International) and Ryan Gontero (Kent/Kent Roosevelt)#, 8-6.

Andy Knauff (Valencia, Pa./Mars Area) and Karl Grant (Elmhurst, Ill./York) got the Pioneers on the board with an 8-3 win at No. 2 against Dale DeFluiter and Hunter Huffman.

DeFluiter defeated Koscielny at No. 2 singles, 6-3 and 6-0, for Muskingum's lone singles victory.

Daub downed Lalwani in a three-set thriller at No. 1, 6-3, 5-7 and 6-3. Knauff posted a 6-3, 6-3 win over Werger at No. 3, while Grant defeated Huffman at No. 4, 6-2 and 6-1.

Tyler Pullekines (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) and Ahmed notched straight-set wins at Nos. 5 and 6, respectively.  Pullekines beat Reichley 6-1 and 6-4, while Ahmed was a 6-1, 6-1 victor over Parker Abraham.

The Pioneers host Heidelberg University on Saturday (April 14) at 1 p.m.
