Muskingum slips by Marietta 5-4 in men's tennis

MARIETTA, Ohio — Marietta College men's tennis took the court for its third Ohio Athletic Conference match in the last four days and dropped a 5-4 decision to visiting Muskingum University Tuesday (April 19) inside the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center. [Box Score]

The Pioneers (3-10, 1-6 OAC) dug themselves into a hole by dropping two of three doubles points against the Fighting Muskies (4-7, 1-4 OAC). Taimur Ahmed (Islamabad, Pakistan/Froebels International) and Ryan Wong (Granville/Granville) put Marietta on the board with an 8-4 win at third doubles.

Muskingum increased its advantage to 4-1 by winning at both second and third singles. Marietta fought back into the match when Teddy Daub (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) persevered through a 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 win at first singles and Mike Carpenter (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) to worked hard for a 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-3) victory in the fourth spot.

The Muskies, however, sealed the match by taking the point at sixth singles. Ahmed then closed the evening with a 6-4, 6-3 win at fifth singles.

Marietta is back in action at 1 p.m. April 30 when it plays host to Otterbein University.
