MARIETTA, Ohio -- The Pioneer track and field team used its depth and 13 event champions to sweep the Marietta Open #3 Friday (Feb. 18) evening inside the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center. [

Marietta's men compiled 150.75 points to hold off rival Muskingum University, who finished with 141.75 points, and win the 11-team competition. The Pioneer women racked up 170.50 points to outdistance themselves from 10 other schools, including second place Wilmington College, who had 122.75 points.
A Pair of the event winners--junior
Ashley Bault (Atwater/Waterloo) and sophomore
Caleb Ellis (St. Albans, W.Va./St. Albans)--also set school records as did freshman pole vaulter
Jon Monnig (Ironton/Ironton). Bault won the 55m Hurdles with a school record time of 9.02 seconds. She also won the High Jump by clearing 1.62m (5-03.75). Ellis set a new Pioneer standard in the 3,000m Run, crossing the line with a winning time of 8:59.72. Monnig placed runner-up in the Pole Vault after finishing with a top mark of 4.44m (14-06.75).
Junior
Lauren Asbury (White Sulphur Springs, W.Va./Greenbrier East) and sophomore Kristeva Rowe joined Bault as multiple-event champions on Friday. Asbury captured the 55m Dash title in 7.48 seconds and then the 200m Dash victory by crossing the line in 27.37 seconds. Rowe, who also plays basketball, made her season debut and swept the Long Jump and Triple Jump with marks of 5.00m (16-05.00) and 10.44m (34-03.00), respectively.
Senior
Stephanie Hammond (Toledo/Central Catholic) was the seventh female winner for Marietta as she won the Weight Throw with a season-best toss of 14.38m (47-02.25).
Five other men matched Ellis in earning 10 points for the Pioneers Friday. Junior
Ryan Householder (Frazeysburg/Tri-Valley) won the 55m Dash with a time of 6.56 seconds. Sophomore
Billy McCulloch (Nelsonville/York) captured the 200m Dash by finishing in 23.42 seconds. Junior
Terrance Wallace (Westerville/Westerville Central) placed first in the 1,000m Run with a time of 2:40.16. Sophomore
Caleb Muller (Columbus/Bexley) won the Mile Run by crossing the line in 4:26.77. Sophomore
Sean Hoover (Kent/Kent Roosevelt) ran to victory in the 5,000m Run with a time of 16:21.70.
This was the final tune-up for next week's
Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Championship, which will take place at Baldwin-Wallace College beginning at noon Friday (Feb. 25) and ending at 5:30 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 26). Marietta will be looking to improve upon its second place finish on the women's side and fifth place finish on the men's side in 2010.
