Pioneers sweep Marietta Open #2

MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College track and field program continued its indoor season by sweeping the Marietta Open #2 Friday (Jan. 21) evening inside the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center. [Results]

The Pioneer women collected 133 points to hold off West Virginia Wesleyan University, who placed second with 127.50 points. Wheeling Jesuit University placed third among the 10 schools after compiling 103 points. Marietta's men took home the team title after racking up 139 points. Again, West Virginia Wesleyan took runner-up with 136 points, while Glenville State University was third with 93 points.

Marietta's women produced five event champions. Junior Lauren Asbury (White Sulphur Springs, W.Va./Greenbrier East) won the 200m Dash with a personal record time of 27.47 seconds. Junior Corry Muench (Cold Spring, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) crossed the line of the 300m Dash with a winning time of 42.50 seconds, also a new personal record. Freshman Emily Lorek (Troy/Troy) won the 500m Run with a time of 2:44.54. Junior Kim Keesler (Chagrin Falls/Chagrin Falls) took first in the Pole Vault after clearing 3.29m (10-09.50). Junior Ashley Bault (Atwater/Waterloo) placed atop the Long Jump standings after a successful leap of 5.13m (16-10.00).

The Pioneer men had three individuals as well as two relays take first place at the event. Sophomore Brandon Siringer (Willowick/Eastlake North) earned ten points in the 1,000m Run after crossing the finish in 2:49.70. Freshman Jason Hoskins (Westerville/Olentangy Orange) made his season debut and won the High Jump by clearing 1.95m (6-04.75). Freshman Jon Monnig (Ironton/Ironton) captured the Pole Vault with a season-best mark of 4.27m (14-00.00).

Sophomore Billy McCulloch (Nelsonville/York), freshman Brandon Harrison (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial), senior #Delè Adedapo and freshman (Caldwell/Caldwell )Ryan Lopez-Jordan# combined to win the 4x200m Relay with a time of 1:33.84. Marietta's Distance Medley Relay, which featured sophomore Caleb Muller (Columbus/Bexley), junior Alex Wynn (Senecaville/Cambridge), junior Terrance Wallace (Westerville/Westerville Central) and sophomore Caleb Ellis (St. Albans, W.Va./St. Albans), also earned ten points after crossing the line in 10:48.18.

The Pioneers hit the road for the first time this season Saturday (Jan. 29) when they compete at the Ohio Athletic Conference Relays, which will be hosted by Capital University and are slated to begin at 11 a.m.
