CANTON, Ohio — The Marietta College volleyball team had its win streak snapped at four matches following a 3-0 (25-14, 25-6, 25-18) non-conference loss to host Walsh University Tuesday (Sept. 7) evening. [Box Score Not Yet Available]
The Cavaliers, who qualified for the NAIA National Tournament in 2009, improved to 5-2 on the season. The Pioneers, playing their first road match of the season, fell to 4-2 in 2010.
Junior right side hitter
Meredith Storey (Olmsted Falls/Olmsted Falls) led the offense with eight kills Tuesday. Sophomore setter
Ally Jenkins (Twinsburg/Walsh Jesuit) finished with 13 assists and three kills.
Junior outside hitter
Alex Weissling (Dublin/Dublin Scioto) and freshman defensive specialist
Amber Wiley (Brunswick/Brookside) had five digs, while sophomore libero
Jen Braun (Chagrin Falls/Kenston) added four digs in the loss.
Marietta will look to regroup when it participates in the
Frostburg State Tournament Friday (Sept. 10) and Saturday (Sept. 11). The Pioneers will play four matches. The first two matches will be Friday against Susquehanna University at 5 p.m. and Geneva College at 7 p.m. Marietta will then take on Gallaudet University Saturday at 12 p.m. and then play a fourth match based on its weekend record later in the day.
