AUSTIN, Texas – For the first time in program history, a member of the Marietta College volleyball team was named to the Academic All-American Team, as selected by the College Sports Communicators. Senior
Emory Spitler (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) was named to the Division III third team, earning the honor due to her academic efforts as well as her play on the volleyball court.
Spitler, a Graphic Design major, posted a cumulative 3.93 GPA in her time as a Pioneer. A three-time CSC Academic All-District honoree, this is Spitler's first appearance on the Academic All-American team.
Spitler also earned AVCA All-American third team status this year as she led the OAC with 10.52 assists per set. She was also 11th in the OAC with 3.1 digs per set. Spitler finished her career as Marietta's all-time leader in assists with 3975.
The complete Division III team had a cumulative 3.88 GPA with seven team members maintaining a 4.0 GPA in their undergraduate studies. For more information regarding the Academic All-America® program, visit academicallamerica.com.
