The Pioneers, who avenged an earlier 8-1 loss to the Bears on April 9, improved to 3-7 and have won three of their last four matches. Shawnee State, who had to forfeit points at both third doubles and sixth singles, fell to 5-6 on the season.

Lauren McKiernan (Parkersburg, W. Va./South)# and sophomore #Mackenzie Boyles# worked extra to earn a point at first doubles as the duo won 9-8 by taking the tiebreaker 10-8. Sophomore #
Caitlin Cornell (South Park, Pa./South Park)# and junior #
Kristina Reed (Grove City/Grove City)# made it a sweep in doubles play with an 8-4 win in the second slot.
McKiernan came back from a first set loss to win her first singles match 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-8). Cornell won her third singles match in straight sets 6-1, 6-0. Reed capped the scoring with a 6-3, 6-0 victory at fourth singles.
Marietta is back in action Friday (April 23) when it plays host to John Carroll University in an Ohio Athletic Conference match at 1 p.m.
