Lindquist and Levens lead #15 Marietta past McMurry 10-2

Casey Levens had three hits, including a home run against McMurry
ABILENE, Texas — Sophomore right-hander Kyle Lindquist (Columbus, Worthington Kilbourne) delivered as strong effort on the mound and junior first baseman Casey Levens (Dayton, Centerville) went 3-for-5 with three RBI to lead #15 Marietta College past host McMurry University 10-2 Tuesday (March 9) night and improve to 4-2 on the season. McMurry fell to 6-9. [Box Score]

In his first career start, Lindquist (1-0) scattered one unearned run on three hits while striking out a career-high six and walking one in six innings.

Marietta out hit its opponent 10-4 and overcame a pair of errors, while McMurry had three errors in the game.

McMurry used a walk and an error to score an unearned run and take the lead in the second.

The Pioneers answered with a three-run third. Senior catcher Chris Beatty (Seven Fields, Pa., Hampton) drove in the first run with a single to center. Levens followed with a RBI single up the middle and junior center fielder John Snyder (Altoona, Pa., Altoona) picked up a RBI after reaching on a fielder's choice.

Sophomore second baseman Kirby Becker (South Euclid, St. Ignatius), who went 2-for-3 in the game, led off the fourth with a single and scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of freshman right fielder Jordan Grilliot (Brookville, Northmont), who picked up the RBI to give Marietta a 4-1 advantage.

The Pioneers scored three more runs in the fifth to stretch their lead to 7-1. Freshman designated hitter Sam Ward (Bay Village, Bay), making his season debut, doubled down the left field line to drive in Snyder, who led off with a walk. Ward went to third on the throw. Becker then executed a squeeze bunt to plate Ward. Grilliot added his second RBI of the game with a single up the middle to drive in sophomore Niko Stanislav (Olmsted Falls, Berea), who walked following Becker's bunt.

Beatty walked and Levens drilled a two-run shot over the left center field fence to lead off the sixth, giving Marietta a 9-1 lead.

Beatty scored the Pioneers' tenth run of the game on a passed ball in the eighth.

Freshman Michael Radvansky (Toronto, Toronto) threw a scoreless seventh and Evan Brockmeier (Marietta, Marietta) pitched a scoreless eighth for Marietta. Levens allowed one run before closing the door on the 10-2 victory.

Marietta closes out its trip to Abilene Wednesday (March 10) afternoon with a single, nine-inning game against Mary-Hardin Baylor (Texas) at McMurry.
