MARIETTA, Ohio — Marietta College Director of Athletics Larry Hiser announced the hiring of John Badgley as the Pioneers' new head men's and women's golf coach.

"Coach Badgley is a great hire for Marietta College. He is plugged into the regional high school golf community which will provide him direct access to hundreds of good high school golfers," Hiser said. "John is known for his public service in Parkersburg, W.Va. and his commitment to education. As a life-long resident of the mid-Ohio valley, he has a deep regard for Marietta's academic mission which will translate into bringing great students into his program. We look forward to his leadership and contributions to our department."

Badgley comes to Marietta after serving as the head boys and girls golf coach at Parkersburg South High School in Parkersburg, West Virginia for the past five seasons. Under Badgley's leadership, the Patriots qualified individuals for the West Virginia State Tournament each year and qualified as a full team in 2025. South's Parker Vannoy won the 2023 individual State Championship and Cam Fallon was named the Golfer of the Year in 2024 through the West Virginia Amateur Golf Association.

Prior to his hiring at Marietta College, Badgley was involved in area athletics in several ways over the years. He also has served as assistant baseball coach for the Parkersburg South Patriots and was a long-time basketball referee that officiated games in both Ohio and West Virginia.  He also serves as a board member for the Mid-Ohio Valley Softball Hall of Fame.

Badgley has served the local community for several years. He worked as the Youth and Adult Sports Senior Program Director at the Parkersburg YMCA where he maintained numerous Youth & Adult Sports Programs and once served as the chairperson for the Mid-Ohio Valley Chamber of Commerce Student Leadership Series.

Badgley received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from West Virginia University of Parkersburg in 1993.

"I'm very excited with the opportunity to coach the women's and men's golf teams at Marietta College," Badgley said. "We will hope to have the opportunity to compete for the OAC Championship each year."
