WESTERVILLE, Ohio — Five Pioneers were recognized as part of the 2025 All-Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Soccer team announced Wednesday (Nov. 5) morning. Juniors
Francesca Agliolo (San Gabriel, Calif./Mayfield Senior),
Delilah Vazquez (Pasadena, Calif./Marshall Fundamental), and
Tati Grigoryan (Sun Valley, Calif./Crescenta Valley) were all named to the first team. Junior
Myah Byers (Delaware, Ohio/Delaware Hayes) earned second team honors and freshman
Katie Heighberger (LaGrange, Ohio/Saint Joseph Academy) was placed on the third team.
"As a whole, this group is the spine of our team," said Marietta head coach
Zack Votra. "We have leadership, athleticism, intelligence, and an incredible amount of skill. The future of Marietta College women's soccer is extremely bright and we're very lucky to have this incredible core of players, all of which will be returning next fall."
Agliolo made an immediate impact in her first season as a Pioneer. She played in 14 matches in the nets and went on to lead all OAC goalies with .658 goals against average and an .875 save percentage. She only gave up eight goals on the season, the lowest amount in the conference, and was credited for six shutouts on the year. That season performance not only put her on the first team but led her to winning the OAC Goalkeeper of the year award.
"Francesca is the total package," said coach Votra. "She has fantastic hands, she's very good with the ball at her feet, and she's dominant in the air. She commands the box very well and she made the team in front of her significantly more confident through her presence. I haven't seen a keeper so confident in 1v1 situations. She's a tremendous asset to our program and we're very excited that we will have her returning for another year of dominance. She's beyond deserving of this award, and I'm glad the rest of the conference felt the same way!"
In a season where goals came at a premium, Vazquez was second on the team with two goals scored and third with five points on the season. Despite the low numbers, Vazquez's speed and athleticism was showcased every game as she often sped past her defender to provide a pinpoint pass to a teammate. She also proved to be an excellent defender from her midfield position.
"Delilah is quite simply the best technical player I have ever coached," Votra said. "Her abilities on the ball and her vision are second to none. She is an incredible player and an even better human being. We owe a great deal of our success to her abilities and presence on the pitch. Whenever we needed to get out of a tight spot, Delilah was there and was able to work flawlessly. She's going to continue to be a huge part of this program going forward. She's no question a first teamer."
Many of the low score totals allowed during the season was a direct result of Marietta's defensive effort and Grigoryan was one of the leaders. She helped provide coverage against the opponent's top attackers and delivered some offense of her own, scoring a goal and assisting on another for the season.
"Tati is a lights out defender," said Votra. "She's technically gifted, disciplined, and extremely intelligent. She anchored a defense that only allowed 10 goals all season and provided a valuable presence throughout our record breaking season. I could not be prouder of the work that she has put in and we're excited about the future ahead of us with her, Myah, Francesca, and the rest of the team around them."
Byers also played an essential part in Marietta's stellar defensive effort this year. She kept her opponents in front, using her strength to keep opponents from ever having a clear shot at the goal.
"Myah may just be the best athlete that I've ever coached," said Votra. "She is a physical presence on the pitch and is fearless in defending. She's an extremely strong presence in the air, and is rock solid 1v1. More than that, she's a leader. The team looks to Myah both on and off the pitch and I'm very happy that her efforts have been recognized by the conference. We already can't wait to get the 2026 season going with Myah at the back!"
Heighberger had a strong start to the season, scoring three times in the first seven games of her collegiate career. She went on to tie for the lead in goals (3) and led the Pioneers with seven points.
"Katie was an incredible attacking threat all season long," said Votra. "I have no doubts that she is going to be one of the biggest attacking threats in the OAC for years to come. To get this recognition as a freshman is incredible and it shows the amount of talent that she possesses. I couldn't be happier for Katie as she deserves every bit of this recognition."
Marietta finished the season with a 5-4-9 overall record and a .528 winning percentage, their highest since finishing .500 back in 2016. They finished with an OAC record of 2-1-5, narrowly missing a spot in the tournament.
"I'm very proud of this group," said Votra. "It was a record setting season, and the best team Marietta College has seen since 2006. There's a lot to be proud of, and even more to build off of. It's a great day to be a Pioneer!"
