Brett Carson (Ashville, Ohio/Teays Valley) and freshman
Austin Amburgey (Miamisburg, Ohio/Miamisburg) were named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week Wednesday (April 5) afternoon. The two Pioneers helped lead the Etta Express to a win over Wittenberg University and a doubleheader sweep over conference foe Ohio Northern.
Carson claimed one of the outfield spots on the weekly team as he batted .714 last week with eight extra-base hits: four doubles, a triple and three home runs. He had six RBI and eight runs scored. He went 3-for-4 with a home run and three runs against Wittenberg and then homered in both games against the Polar Bears and drove in four runs.
Amburgey tied a team record going 6-for-6 with eight runs batted in and homer in the win at Wittenberg. He then got base hits in his first two at bats at Ohio Northern before walking twice and getting hit by a pitch to reach base safely in 11 straight plate appearances. He finished the week batting .846 (11-for-13) with a home run, six runs scored and nine RBIs.
Marietta returns home to battle Washington and Jefferson College in a single nine-inning game on Wednesday (April 5). First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
