MARIETTA, Ohio — Washington and Jefferson College defeated Marietta College by the score of 14-2 Thursday (Mar. 19) afternoon at Pioneer Park. The loss drops Marietta to 2-11 on the season, while the Presidents improve to 9-2 overall.
Washington and Jefferson scored eight runs in the first four innings. Zac Stern smacked a two-run home run to right in the third innings and Seth Rosenfeld added a solo homer to left in the fourth.
Marietta scored both of its runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Michael Ciavolella (Tallmadge, Ohio/Archbishop Hoban) hit his team-leading third home run, a solo shot off the scoreboard in left center, to get the Pioneers on the board.
Cooper Fiehrer (Hamilton, Ohio/Badin) delivered an RBI double later in the frame for Marietta's second run.
With Ohio Athletic Conference play starting on Saturday, Marietta used nine different pitchers in the game.
Brayden Wells (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) (0-1) started and got the loss. He gave up two runs on three hits with two strikeouts in 2.0 innings of work.
Bobby Budacki (1-2) started and got the win for the Presidents. He tossed 4.0 innings and allowed two runs on five hits with a pair of strikeouts. Chase Perry worked 3.0 scoreless innings and Jake Stiehl retired all six batters he faced in the final 2.0 innings.
Marietta travels to Westerville on Saturday (Mar. 21) to play Otterbein University. The OAC doubleheader starts at 1:00 p.m.
